'Millie and the Night Heron' was published in 2005.

'The daughter of an artist and a scientist, and your own interesting self, Millie. What more could you need?'
But Millie isn't sure that Tom, her mum's boyfriend, is right about that.
A new town, a school project due, an enemy called Tayla, a boy with the initials RH and Tom himself... It's all too much, even for an interesting girl like Millie.
But as her father says, change is needed, an sometimes it's the biggest changes that make us who we are.

Millie and the Night Heron was triggered by my best friend's move down the highway. We'd had a daily kind of friendship. Her daughter was my daughter's best friend. We all spent a lot of time together so when she moved, that sort of extended family changed for me and my kids. That made me think about what kind of family, as an only child, I have learnt to create for myself.

What kind of family do you have? Write a story about them and send it in to Catherine through the Visitor's Book page.
